Painting for STEAM
I always feel like I’m not doing enough to help out beyond taking care of my nuclear family. When I started painting over a year ago, I knew I wanted to donate my paintings to help raise money for causes that I care about.
A while back I woke up with an urge to paint with orange! I usually stick to safe a soothing blue tones. On this day I just had to get out some energy with big orange brush strokes. After a few days of applying several layers of paint, I decided to put it aside for a later date. When I decided to donate a painting to the East Sacramento Garden Tour to support the STEAM program at David Lubin, I selected a 30” x 30” painting that was hanging in my studio. It is a painting that I personally really like. However after seeing the mockup of the beautiful table of items gifted for the fundraiser, I decided that the selected painting wasn’t right! After all, this is a garden tour and I love flowers and nature. This painting with abstract bronze triangles just wasn’t right.
So, I thought, orange! Like the poppy on the logo for the garden tour. I dashed to get the 48” x 30” (although probably much larger than what is ideal for a raffle table) canvas that had multiple layers of blue, black, white and orange, and got to work! It was so invigorating to create something that I know will be useful to help raise money for David Lubin’s STEAM program.
